NEW MILFORD — A 61-year-old man is dead after fatally shooting his neighbor and ambushing two Pennsylvania state troopers Thursday in Thompson Township, Susquehanna Township. Colonel Christopher Paris of the state police, “When that call came in by Miss Wasko’s boyfriend, those two troopers responded. They responded along State Route 191, to try to ascertain the location of that threat of shots fired. The troopers made it out of their vehicle and they were ambushed.”
State police say Carmine Faino killed 57-year-old Lori Wasko before firing “dozens” of rounds at Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins, wounding both. Perechinsky, despite being shot twice, applied tourniquets to Jenkins and blocked traffic to protect others.
An EMT was also injured when Faino fired on him, causing a crash. After a three-hour standoff, police shot and killed Faino. Gov. Josh Shapiro praised the troopers’ heroism, saying the Commonwealth “owes them a debt of gratitude.” Both troopers are in stable condition.
