Fire at Transitions Facility

No Injuries and all are Safely Housed

First responders extinguished a large fire at the Transitions Facility in Shamokin nearing midnight on Saturday, January 26, 2019.  All occupants left safely and no injuries were reported.  They are now safely housed in other Transitions facilities.

At the time of this press release, fire officials had not released the cause of the fire.

Transitions continues to provide uninterrupted services to Union, Snyder and Northumberland Counties, which include the operation of a 24-hour emergency hotline, individual and group counseling, trauma therapy, housing and legal assistance, and education services.

Our amazing and highly qualified staff members respond well in difficult times like this. They are able to work with the trauma of domestic and sexual violence on a regular basis, so when we face these types of challenges, we take care of our clients first and then ensure that our services are not interrupted.  We are assessing the extent of the damage and will make a decision about the location of safe housing in Northumberland County,” said Susan Mathias, CEO of Transitions.
