GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three people from our area were killed in a plane crash in Greensboro, North Carolina. Sources tell WKOK attorney Michael Apfelbaum of Sunbury, his wife Christy Apfelbaum, and her father, were killed in the crash Monday around noon.
The National Transportation Safety Board tells WKOK Apfelbaum was flying a Beechcraft A36 plane near a rock quarry when he told air traffic controllers he was disoriented and was trying to find his way to Greensboro airport. The plane crashed and burst into flame, killing all three occupants. The plane had taken off from Sarasota, Florida. An NTSB investigator will be on the scene later today.
