From the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania: The mission of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP) is to improve the quality of life in north central Pennsylvania through community leadership, the promotion of philanthropy, the strengthening of nonprofit impact and the perpetual stewardship of charitable assets. In addition to supporting nonprofits through its grantmaking, FCFP serves philanthropists. It strives to match donor passions with local agencies and increase philanthropic support across the region.  The Foundation has a vision to create powerful communities through passionate giving. Strong communities create strong regions, strong regions create strong states and strong states create a stronger country.

While our primary service area is north central Pennsylvania, I’m writing today about the countless people in Texas and Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As your partner in philanthropy, we know that many of you will feel a call to action. The Council on Foundations has created an excellent resource page, www.cof.org/news/hurricane-harvey, to help donors navigate giving options. In addition to national organizations responding to disasters, you will find links to Texas based community foundations (organizations like FCFP) that have created disaster relief funds to address pressing local needs.  I recently learned that 28 volunteers from the Central Pennsylvania Red Cross (including four from FCFP’s primary service area) are in Texas giving of their time to aid in recovery initiatives. To support these volunteers and their efforts go to http://redcross.org/centralpa.  As the president of FCFP, I am continually amazed by the collective generosity of our regional donors. Thank you for all you do for our communities – near and far. Sincerely,  Jennifer D. Wilson, President & CEO
