The Susquehanna River has crested without major flooding

SUNBURY – The first high water of the spring did not lead to major flooding problems in The Valley. At Sunbury the Susquehanna River is at about 17.5 feet and falling. It crested at Sunbury Sunday afternoon at about 18 feet. That was below the flood stage of 24 feet and no major problems were reported.

The Shikellamy State Park Marina access road was closed Saturday and Sunday—and will most likely stay closed this week.  More high water is expected later this week, as additional rains are forecast.

At Danville, the river crested Sunday evening at 15 feet, below the flood stage of 20 feet.  At Lewisburg, the West Branch of  the river crested at about 11 feet Sunday morning. The high water is forecast to return Wednesday.
