SHAMOKIN – A teenager has been charged with animal abuse after two dogs mauled a cat in Shamokin. A 17-year-old Shamokin boy is facing two felony counts of cruelty to animals.
The teen was turned over to Northumberland County juvenile probation and placed in a youth detention facility.
Shamokin police posted a video of the incident on their Crime Watch Facebook page, which has been shared thousands of times.
Police Chief Darwin Tobias III said the dogs chased the cat and cornered it on a front porch before killing it. In the video, Tobias says two men were seen walking the dogs and then letting go of the leashes, allowing the dogs to chase the cat. The investigation continues into the identity of the other man.
