Task force launched to cut waste in state government

capitol THMHARRISBURG – State House Republicans have launched a new cost saving initiative. The PennSAVE task force was formed by the majority policy committee to find ways to save taxpayer dollars by cutting waste and inefficiencies in government.

Rep. David Millard (R-109th, Berwick), a task force member, says the initiative is a step forward in closing the budget deficit, “We’re looking for ways to improve the efficiency and the cost of government. The bottom line is that we do have a deficit as far as expenditures related to income. And what we’re trying to do is close that gap in as many ways as possible. This will be one giant step toward doing that.”

The task force will consider possible savings from state agency and program consolidations, reforms of government procurement policies and “corporate welfare” programs as well as overall waste, fraud and abuse in the system.
