Talen Energy will not convert coal-fired power plant to natural gas

Montour PlantWASHINGTONVILLE — Talen Energy has announced they will not convert the coal-fired Montour power plant in Washingtonville to a natural gas plant.  The $70-million project was unexpectedly dropped and the decision was announced in the company’s quarterly report.

The company says they will re-evaluate their investment in the plant, which currently employs about 200 people.  The company did not disclose their reasons for not going forward with the plans they announced in June of 2016.  They had previously indicated work would begin this year, with hopes the plant would be converted to natural gas in 2018.  (Ali Stevens)
