SELINSGROVE – After 16-years as the president of Susquehanna University, L. Jay Lemons has announced he will be leaving to take another job in June of 2017. Lemons current contract ends June 30,2017 and at that time, he will become president of Academic Search, an executive search and higher education leadership development firm.
Speaking from his residence, Lemons said his family has cherished the time spent in The Valley, “Susquehanna and Selinsgrove are home. For our youngest, who was less than one when we first arrived on the scene here, she knows no other home. For the rest of our kids, they have grown up in this wonderful place, Pine Lawn. We have loved being here in this community.”
Lemons said, “We are so grateful for the way that we were welcomed, accepted, and came to be acquainted and friendly, and to love the people of the area and the quality of life has been rich and rare for us.”
During his tenure, Lemons has overseen $125-million in capital improvements on campus, completion of Susquehanna’s largest fundraising campaign, acquisition and development of key real estate allowing for student housing and a Geisinger Medical Center-affiliated student health complex, and many other accomplishments.
Lemons announced his decision at a meeting yesterday with students, faculty and staff. A search committee has been formed by the board of trustees to find Susquehanna University’s next president. (Ali Stevens)
