SELINSGROVE – The provost and dean of faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University will be taking on the president’s job at Susquehanna University.  Susquehanna University’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Saturday to elect Jonathan D. Green, D.M.A., as Susquehanna’s 15th president, effective July 1, 2017.

Green says he’s excited to take on the position, “Susquehanna University truly excels in educating its students for productive, creative, or reflective lines of achievement, leadership, and service in a diverse and dynamic interdependent world. I eagerly look forward to working with all of you in supporting this nomination.”

Green will succeed L. Jay Lemons, who announced in February that he would be leaving his position in June 2017 to become president of Academic Search, an executive search and higher education leadership-development firm.

Green is a composer and conductor and earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia and a Master of Music from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Signe Gates, chair of the Presidential Search Committee, said she is very pleased with Green’s appointment, “He will bring the right combination of skills, experience and demeanor to Susquehanna.  He has stellar credentials and is worthy of the excellence reflected by Susquehanna’s faulty and administrative leadership.”

Green was gifted the official Susquehanna University tie, which is orange and maroon striped and created by Joe Kleinbauer, by President L. Jay Lemons, at a reception on Monday.  (Ali Stevens)
