SUNBURY – Volunteers are needed for an annual clean up of the Susquehanna River. Zach Stotter, founder of the Susquehanna River Cleanup Project says volunteers will focus on a different section of the river this year, “Our general area has been between Lewisburg and Sunbury. This year we’re changing it up a little bit and working a little bit more on the North Branch.”
In the last four years of the cleanup, volunteers have collected more than 25,000 pounds of garbage from the river. Some volunteers walk the river banks while others will be in boats, “We have boaters, generally kayakers, who come down from further upriver. They kind of clean up, put it into bags and then our power boats pick that up.”
Gloves, snacks and lunch will be provided. Stotter says new volunteers are always welcome, “If you haven’t done it before, it’s a great time to get involved. Volunteers will meet Saturday, May 7 at 9a.m at the Sunbury Boat Launch.
