UPDATE: The move scheduled for Thursday night/Friday morning has been postponed until July 6.
MONTOURSVILLE – An extra large truck and trailer is scheduled to be move Thursday night through Snyder and Northumberland Counties—and they’ll be a lot of road, bridge, and ramp closures as a result.
The so-called ‘superload’ will be moved from Susquehanna Rail Works in Lower Augusta Township to the power plant at Hummels Station in Monroe Township. It weighs more than 700,000 pounds, is 204 feet long, 16 feet wide and 18 feet high.
The trip from Lower Augusta Township to Hummels Station is expected to occur between 10 p.m and 2 am. with estimated offload between 2 a.m and 4 a.m. The carrier will return to Susquehanna Rail Works via the same route between 4 a.m and 6 a.m.
Route 147 from Susquehanna Rail Works to the City of Sunbury will be closed while the carrier is on that roadway. Three bridges, including the bridge on Route 147 over Shamokin Creek and Norfolk South Railroad tracks, Veterans Memorial Bridge and the ramp over Route 11/15 will also be closed to traffic while the load is moving. Side road access may be prohibited as the carrier approaches roadways. (Alex Reichenbach)
*Editors note: This is the first in a series of wide loads, super loads and large trucks that will move through The Valley, ending up at the Hummels Station power plant. Super loads are tentatively scheduled to move on July 1, 6, 7, 11 and 13th. And they’ll be more after that!
