SUNBURY – A Sunbury businessman charged with trying to kill his wife was released on $1 bail Thursday. Judge Charles Saylor agreed with Bob Snyder’s claim that the district attorney’s office failed to bring him to trial within the mandated 180 days.
Snyder’s defense attorney, Michael Rudinski, “I think the rule 600 is set up for this purpose that if somebody sits this long that hasn’t been brought to trial, that they should be released and that’s what happened here today on nominal bail.”
Police say Snyder assaulted his wife and threatened her with a gun, saying he would kill her and himself. The two struggled for the gun and the weapon fired, but no one was struck. Snyder claimed during today’s Act 600 hearing his wife was the one who pulled the trigger, when she tried to stop him from firing the gun.
Conditions of Snyder’s release include having no contact with his wife, Kim Snyder and reporting bi-weekly to Northumberland County jail supervision program. Snyder must remain in the six- county area and has to reside in Northumberland County. (Matt Catrillo)
