Sunbury doles out CDBG money, but with a ‘no’ vote

SUNBURY— The Sunbury City Council selected their projects to be funded by their 2017 community development block grant. The City is receiving $223,770 and most of that money is going towards phase three of the Chestnut Street project, says Mayor David Persing, “ We have it narrowed down in support of three things. One of those was $192,660 to go into Chestnut Street what we will call phase three which should be the final phase of Chestnut Street.”

Also being funded with the 2017 money are hydrogen cyanide monitors for the fire department at a cost $3,000, and $28,110 to the redevelopment authority for the clearance and demolition of blighted properties.

Councilman Dale Henry didn’t agree with the decision to give money to the redevelopment authority and thought the money should be used on retro fitting equipment for the fire department. He says, “The fire department has been growing, getting new modernized equipment we have larger hose diameter size. These Storz quick connect all you do it put it on and clamp it and you can go.

So, you are saving a little bit of a time. The more time you can get in there and save some body or a structure to me thats why I voted.”

The money the redevelopment authority receives will be matched by a County Keystone Grant.
