Sunbury City Council’s first budget discussion

Sunbury MunicipalSUNBURY – It’s the season of balance and numbers. Sunbury City Council will be holding their first reading of their 2016 budget this Thursday November 12th.

Mayor David Persing says their goal is to keep the taxes low, “You know, we’ve been going a long time without raising taxes to amount to anything and I’m a believer you still need city services. People expect their water and sewer and police protection, etc. We just want to continue to improve the city and keep the taxes as low as we can.”

Persing says the Obama Care Luxury tax could be an issue, “When you start talking about a 40 percent tax; that’s going to be astronomical for a lot of businesses and us. We have to find a way to give the people insurance they need, especially the health insurance.”

Council will meet 5 pm Thursday in council chambers. (Lauren Koch)
