SUNBURY—The Sunbury City Council says the investigation of misconduct within their police department is “out of their hands.” At Monday night’s meeting, Mayor David Persing read a statement that said the city’s law firm, Ballard Spahr, has concluded its investigation of the city’s internal probe of its police department. “This confidential personnel investigation has been completed. Counsel has been fully reviewing the report’s findings and conclusions. The investigation is in the hands of the lawyers.”

After the meeting, Mayor Persing said city council does not have the report from its law firm’s investigation. “The details of that investigation are still in the hands of the lawyers. As far as what’s involved with the Daily Item and that lawsuit, whatever the state of Pennsylvania says, that’s what will happen.”

The state Office of Open Records has requested a copy of Ballard Spahr’s investigation results but whether it receives the report remains to be seen.

Applications for the city’s police chief job are now up to sixteen. Interviews for the vacancy will begin next week, Persing says. (Kory Kramer)
