SUNBURY – You could be instrumental in helping the Sunbury City Band grow in 2016. Tom Gegenheimer is director of the band and says they have grown to about 60 members in the past year, but they are looking for more people to join in and get involved.
Gegenheimer said, “The message that we try to push with the city band, and all community bands, is you can always play your instrument. It’s kind of like riding a bike. You can pick it up after 20, 30 or 40 years and it comes back to you. One of the things we really try to do is reach out to all walks of life and all age groups. We have students from four different school districts and we have some more mature members who are in their 80’s.”
Gegenheimer says they need to get started on practicing for their spring concert, “Our first performance of the calendar year is our spring concert. That’s either going to be the 16th of May or the 23rd of May. We start rehearsals next Monday. That concert will be our presentation of the music we rehearsed over the winter.”
