Sunbury awarded grant for Chestnut Street project

SunburySUNBURY – The City of Sunbury now has more money to continue an ongoing road improvement project. State Senator John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick) says the city has been awarded a $750,000 grant for water and sewer improvements related to Phase Two of the Chestnut Street rehabilitation project.

Gordner says, “The funding will enable the city to replace several thousand feet of outdated, malfunctioning sewer lines, as well as separate sewage and storm water collection.” The funding was awarded by the state Department of Community and Economic Development through the Community Block Grant program.

Phase Two of the project includes replacing decayed, crushed and broken clay sewer pipes and larger water catch basins and grates will be installed to eliminate standing water on Chestnut Street during rainstorms.

Phase two of the project is expected to begin this spring.
