SELINSGROVE— A university president in The Valley is named to a board position with the NCAA. Susquehanna University President Dr. L. Jay Lemons was recently named the first vice chairman of the NCAA Board of Governors.
Lemons was unanimously selected to fill the position through January 2019. He says one of his first tasks in the new position, is supporting a proposal from board chairman Kirk Schulz. Schulz is taking steps to make all the 1,200 schools and 483,000 student-athletes feel included by giving them more say in championship activities.
The board will continue exploring potential changes to its structure in the months ahead. Feedback from members will be gathered from surveys. The survey results will inform discussions at an NCAA session dedicated to exploring changes in the board’s composition.
“It is an honor to serve the Board of Governors as vice chair,” said Lemons. “This new role signals both the continuing development of the Board of Governors and its intentional effort to share the leadership of the Association with members from all three divisions.” (Matt Catrillo)
