SUNBURY – The best way to stay healthy and energetic in the hot summer sun is to stay hydrated.  Kathryn Long is a registered dietician at Weis Markets and says drinking plenty of water is very important.

Long explained, “Especially in the hot weather, you want to try to drink at least a cup of water about a half hour before hand.  You want to drink about a cup of water every ten to twenty minutes, during that exercise, and then another cup of water 30 minutes after exercise, so really staying hydrated throughout, so you don’t get dehydrated afterwards.”

Long explained why staying hydrated is important for your body, “You will have more energy.  You won’t be tired.  You won’t have headaches.  You will feel more alert and more energized.  Your mental focus will be better when you are hydrated.”

And Long says if you don’t like drinking water, try infusing it, “This is a focus in our brand new Healthy Bites magazine.  It’s some fresh ideas for infused water.  So, put some fruits and veggies in your water or even some herbs.”
To infuse water, add fruits, veggies and herbs and store it in the refrigerator overnight for added flavor the next day.  To hear more about staying hydrated, you can listen to Kathryn Long and Erin Long from WKOK Sunrise online at www.wkok.com.  (Ali Stevens)
