SELINSGROVE – Thousands of people are expected to attend the Snyder County Night Out event at East Snyder Park in Selinsgrove. Organizer and Snyder County District Attorney Mike Piecuch says this is their biggest event yet, with hundreds of organizations, businesses and clubs participating.
Don Weirick, fire chief for Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company of Selinsgrove will be there to find more community support for their work in the community, “Departments from Eastern Snyder County are available to talk to about becoming a volunteer and also to provide fire prevention tips and activities for the kids. All departments in Snyder County are 100 percent volunteer and we are always looking for additional volunteers to support their communities.”
Weirick will also make sure Life Flight can arrive safely for those in attendance to see first-hand, “We have to have communications with the helicopter via radio to give them coordinates to land and also conditions for the landing zone. Otherwise, they will just keep making circles.”
Snyder County Sheriff John Zechman will also be in attendance handing out some free items and information, “We have free gun locks for the public and gun safety information as well as license to carry applications for anybody who would be interested in applying for one through the Snyder County Sheriff’s Office. Another thing we like to highlight at our community events is our drug takeback box. It’s a program to retrieve any unwanted or expired medications from the public that they would like to get rid of. It’s a tool that we use to combat the battle against the opioid crisis here in Pennsylvania.”
Snyder County Night Out is Tuesday, August 23 at East Snyder Park. The public is encouraged to attend this free event for the community.
