Snyder County Coalition for Kids looking forward to their annual conference

SUNBURY – This Thursday is the 5th annual December Coalition Conference at Susquehanna University, hosted by the Snyder County Coalition for Kids.  Snyder County District Attorney Mike Piecuch is board chairman for the coalition.

Piecuch said, “We work to figure out what are the risk factors to the kids in our community and the protective factors.  What can we do to reduce the risk factors and enhance those protective factors.  We do that through a number of ways…through community events like our kids safety fairs, through our support of Meals for Seals and Meals for Mustangs student food programs and of course, our upcoming annual conference on Thursday.”

Piecuch talks about the focus of this year’s annual conference, “Each year, we try to create a program to bring to the community information about what our kids are dealing with and what we can do to help them.  The opioid addiction issue is one that doesn’t just affect adults.  It’s affecting kids.  Not just kids who are facing addiction but kids who are facing family members with addiction.  We’ve brought in a number of speakers this year to talk about those subjects.”

So far, about 150 people have registered to participate.  The conference is free and lunch is provided.  To register, you can visit their website at www.scc4k.org.  The conference begins at 9 a.m. in the Degenstein Theater at Susquehanna University.  (Ali Stevens)
