Silent vigil planned to remember Orlando victims

Orlando shootingSUNBURY – Area religious leaders are holding a silent vigil Tuesday evening in Sunbury. Sunbury Together, an interfaith clergy group will hold a candlelight vigil in Cameron Park at 5:30p.m.

Reverend Ann Keeler Evans says the shooting in Orlando was the impetus for the event, “In memory of those wounded and killed in Orlando and in solidarity with those of our neighbors who are still targets of persecution and violence.”

Keeler Evans says the vigil is just a first step, “This is just people saying ‘this is wrong and that we will stand up.’ I think that’s really what has to be true, we have to stand up. If we don’t do it, it will not stop.”

Keeler Evans says the vigil will last about half an hour. Everyone is welcome and attendees are asked to bring a candle. (Ali Stevens/Jennifer Wakeman)
