SUNBURY – The Sunbury Middle School project is on schedule for an opening in the late summer of 2016. The school is being built at the site of the former C.W. Rice school in Nothumberland. Shikellamy School Board Member James Garman says despite poor weather earlier this year, the project is still on schedule to be complete in May of 2016.
He explained what you will see as construction continues, “They are seeing walls go up. There is some steel going up and if one was to look inside, there is steel studs being put in place and it’s starting to look like classrooms. However, the roof is not on, but they expect to be able to be able to finish the roof before winter.”
Garman said the building is modern and three floors with a high roof. He said there will be plenty of parking and two athletic fields.
The new school is $18.7-million and will move middle school students from the high school in Sunbury to the new site in Northumberland. (Ali Stevens)
