ISLAND PARK- The second draft of the Shikellamy School District 2016-17 budget was presented at last night’s work session. Business Manager David Sinopoli elaborated on approximately ten proposed changes which drop the district’s current deficit from $2.2-million to $1.3-million.

Those changes included the elimination of certain proposed new staff positions within the district as well as changes to offered alternative education programs. “We listed about ten different changes that amounted to approximately $800,000. The largest of those being a one month funding holiday for our health insurance. There were also some changes to our elementary budget requisition. There were reductions.” Mr. Sinopoli explained.

The board will vote next Thursday on a proposed final budget. They will vote on the final draft on June 14th. (Ashley Thomas)
