Shamokin school administrator charged with shoplifting

SHAMOKIN — A Herndon woman, who was a longtime Shamokin Area School District administrator, is accused of stealing more than $200 worth of groceries from a local grocery store.  The News Item reports 61-year-old Ruby Michetti was charged Friday with retail theft.

Court records state Michetti was seen by store employees bagging groceries at the self-scan, without scanning them.  When she was stopped as she left the store, they found more than 30 items that hadn’t been scanned, totaling about $230.  The incident occurred in November.  Michetti joined the Shamokin Area School District in 2004 and served as curriculum coordinator.  Soon after the incident, she submitted notice she would be retiring.  The board accepted her retirement at their regular meeting Wednesday.  (Ali Stevens)
