Shamokin man sentenced for robbery and escape

court-hammer-gavel1-293x220SUNBURY – A Shamokin man who was the subject of a manhunt last March was sentenced Monday. 23-year-old Peter Pereira escaped from the office of district judge John Gembic March 11. He was awaiting arraignment on robbery charges after allegedly stealing a cellphone from an acquaintance.

 

Periera was not handcuffed or shackled and fled on foot. He was on the lam for two days before turning himself in. He pled guilty in July to felony robbery and felony escape. Northumberland County President Judge Charles Saylor sentenced Periera to intermediate punishment for the escape and up to 23 months in county prison for the robbery charge.
