Severe Staffing Shortages at Allenwood Federal Penitentiary

ALLENWOOD – NorthcentralPA.com is reporting… Severe staffing shortages at Allenwood federal penitentiary are raising safety concerns, with 113 correctional officer positions unfilled. Union leaders say officers are overworked, pulling 16-hour shifts, and struggling with burnout.

Allenwood offers the lowest federal prison pay in the region and hiring incentives have been reduced. A request for higher wages remains stalled at the Department of Justice.  Legislation to improve correctional officer pay is pending in Congress. The union urges citizens to contact lawmakers in support of fair wages.
