Sestak weighs in on state budget impasse

sestak 1HARRISBURG – A candidate for U.S. Senate is weighing in on the Pennsylvania budget impasse. Former U.S. Congressman Joe Sestak says the five-month stalemate is affecting the distribution of federal dollars for public services in the commonwealth, “Federal funds go through the state and are not getting through. I felt, in running for United States Senate, I should be there to say, ‘I’m with the people.’”

Sestak distributed food, jackets, blankets and school supplies to more than 100 people on the steps of the state capital last Friday.

He says federal funds for domestic violence shelters are not reaching the people who need them most, “There’s also money in there for public schools. I’m talking about pre-K programs; I’m talking about Head Start. There’s also money in there for the homeless, including my fellow vets. These are all being denied federal funds.”

Sestak is running against Katie McGinty and John Fetterman for the Democratic nomination for Pat Toomey’s seat in the U.S. Senate.
