MILTON — Senator Gene Yaw believes marijuana should be treated like alcohol and tobacco when it comes to regulation and taxation. The state senator from the 23rd district told the Standard Journal his view on taxing pot.
Sen. Yaw told the newspaper’s editorial board, “Alcohol has been used for thousands of years. Same thing with tobacco…I don’t think marijuana is any different than these other things. We’ve regulated it and taxed it.”
He noted that bills proposing marijuana legalization regularly surface in Pennsylvania’s legislature. Although initially opposed to medical marijuana, he said he eventually supported it, acknowledging, “It has its place for some people.”
