Senate passes Gordner bill to investigate attorney general

220px-John_GordnerHARRISBURG – John Gordner and the state senate are still going after Kathleen Kane. The Senate has unanimously approved legislation to allow for the appointment of independent counsel, to investigate alleged wrongdoing in the state attorney general’s office.

Valley Senator John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick) says he introduced the legislation based on the suggestion of Common Cause, a government reform group.  The Pennsylvania Supreme Court also urged the General Assembly to pass an independent counsel law (in an opinion) upholding the appointment of a special prosecutor in the case of Attorney General Kathleen Kane.

Gordner said after reading the court opinion, he felt it was important to introduce the legislation for establishing a process for the appointment of independent counsel.  He says this is needed because the top law enforcement agency of the state is implicated in alleged criminal conduct.

Gordner served as chair of the Special Committee on Senate Address, which examined Attorney General Kathleen Kane’s ability to perform the duties of her office with a suspended law license.  (Ali Stevens)
