HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The highest ranking Republican in the state Senate is introducing a resolution for a vote on whether to direct Gov. Tom Wolf to remove Attorney General Kathleen Kane from office.
Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati’s four-page resolution asserts there’s reasonable cause to believe Kane can’t perform her duties with an indefinitely suspended law license.
The Senate is expected to vote on Wednesday on whether to remove Kane from the job she was elected to in 2012.
Unlike impeachment, it doesn’t require action in the House.
Kane’s license has been suspended since October. She’s defending herself against criminal charges she leaked secret grand jury material and lied about it.
Kane’s said she doesn’t believe the process the Senate is poised to undertake is legal.
The resolution will require support from at least 33 senators to pass. The 50-seat Senate currently has one vacancy.
Kane, a Democrat, is trying to get on the April 26 primary ballot for a second term.
