SELINSGROVE – Citizens of Selinsgrove came together to honor fallen veterans on Memorial Day. The American Legion Victory Post 25 hosted the Selinsgrove Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony in front of the borough building Monday morning. Speakers included Snyder County Commissioner Peggy Chamberlain Roup, State Representative Fred Keller, and the guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Cooper.
Cooper explained the importance of this holiday, “Ladies and gentleman, we live in uncertain times and in a complex and rapidly changing world. This can cause us to question our faith, as well as our nation will. We need to endure as a nation and ensure our service members who have fallen have not died in vain, continuing to support the cause.”
Cooper expressed why citizens should take the time to appreciate and get involved with community remembrance, “We have to respect and be willing to help one another to become part of the solution. Like our forefathers envisioned in order for democracy to prevail.”
A parade followed the ceremony including the Selinsgrove Area High School Band. The Legion also partnered with the Selinsgrove Area Pool offering a free ice cream picnic and free admission to the pool on the holiday. (Alex Reichenbach)
