Selinsgrove launches energy conservation program

sedaSELINSGROVE — Reducing energy costs for the entire community of Selinsgrove is the goal behind an energy conservation program launching in the borough.  $elinsgrove $aves: The Energy Project, will kick off the effort with a celebration Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Selinsgrove Area Intermediate School.  The public is invited.

Ken Miller, co-chair of the project’s advisory committee said, “The goal is to move the Selinsgrove community towards greater energy efficiency and economic prosperity.”   SEDA-COG’s Energy Resource Center is providing technical assistance to $elinsgrove $aves, following the model of a similar project in New Berlin in Union County.  During the final stages of that project, New Berlin reported a community-wide cost savings of over 10 percent, with many residents and organizations reporting reductions of 40 to 70 percent.

The Energy Resource Center has already collected commercial energy use data from over 50 Selinsgrove businesses and has coordinated with the local senior center to provide help in completing applications for income-eligible weatherization programs.

PPL will then do walkthroughs at homes for a $50 fee and the Selinsgrove Borough Council has allocated $10,000 from the Gelnett Trust to reimburse 200 residents for the $50 fee charged by PPL.  (Ali Stevens)
