Selinsgrove Hires Female Police Chief, Believed to be First Ever

SELINSGROVE – The Borough of Selinsgrove has hired Shanee Mitchell to become its next police chief, believed to be the first ever in the borough and Snyder County. The borough announced the hire in a news release Thursday afternoon. The borough says she’ll begin her tenure in mid-July when her background check and clearances have been reviewed and finalized.

Mitchell was born and raised in west Philadelphia and began her career with the City of Philadelphia Police Department in 2003, quickly rising through the ranks during her 20-year-career. Accomplishments include assuming the role of captain during civil unrest in the city in October 2020 following the Walter Wallace shooting and election protest in 2021. She also was given numerous awards and citations for her career in Philadelphia.

Snyder County Commissioner Chairman Joe Kantz says he welcomes Mitchell to the county like he does with anyone new to the area.

Mitchell married to her husband Wesley and is a mom of three children.
