SELINSGROVE- Residents who packed the Selinsgrove Zoning Hearing Board meeting room Thursday night were left with many questions unanswered about a variance request for a controversial cellular telephone tower on Linda Lane. The Selinsgrove Zoning Hearing Board approved a delay request by Horvath Communications, who made the variance request. The case will now be heard at the next regularly scheduled meeting October 1.
Joanne Lauer, who lives on Linda Lane, says having to wait is somewhat frustrating, “We did a lot of work in a short amount of time. We were wishing to have some more time to do some more research, so this may benefit us. I was just curious as to why they would want an extension. You would think that if we did, that they’d think we weren’t prepared and this would be there go ahead time to defeat us, so I find it a bit amusing that they’re the ones who stepped away from this.”
Lauer’s biggest concern about the possible installation of the cell tower is marketability for her neighborhood, “There are a lot of people that don’t necessarily believe there are health hazards, but they believe there’s a perception of a health hazard, which is all that you need when you’re selling. For many people this is all they got, this is their asset. Nobody wants to live where there’s linking technology in the middle of the woods so to speak.”
The October 1 meeting is scheduled for 7:00. (Matt Catrillo)
