Selinsgrove Borough Busy Applying for Grants for Various Projects

SELINSGROVE – The Borough of Selinsgrove has been busy applying for various grants to address many needed improvements. Borough Manager Lauren Martz says the borough has applied for ‘at least’ $4 million in grants, but is still waiting to hear back on many applications.

Martz says one project the borough wants to address is obtaining $1 million to reconstruct Industrial Park Road, which has had many issues since 2017, including needing to be widened to meet PennDOT specifications.

Martz says the borough also wants to upgrade its recreation opportuniuty by creating a walking trail. So far, Martz says the borough has applied for a $37,500 DCNR grant to conduct a planning study, and the borough would put in $37,500 as well. Following a planning study, the borough would then apply for construction grants. Martz says the borough would eventually want to connect to other Snyder County municipalities through the county’s new walkability plan.

In other projects, Martz says the borough also applied for DCED grants in the spring to make a $1 million purchase for a new fire truck for the DH&L Fire Company.

Martz says the borough has also been working to connect Susquehanna University to the downtown. She says those efforts started years ago, when it had a $200,000 DCED grant and it was going to be done in phases – but the borough reapplied and received another $300,000 in funding for that project. Work for that project includes installing new decorative lights.

Martz says the borough is also looking to improve Front Street on Isle of Que. It also wants to apply for a PA Small Water and Sewer grants for 8th Street, which could result in up to $500,000 for that project with a 15% match from the borough.
