SELINSGROVE – A school principal in the Selinsgrove School District will dye his hair red and blue and sleep on the roof of the elementary school. Terry Heintzelman promised his students that if they read 100,000 books combined, he would sleep in a tent on the roof of the building after dying his hair red and blue.
The challenge came about in November when author Kevin O’Malley visited the school to share his book, ‘Miss Malarchy Leaves No Reader Behind’. In the book, the principal promises to dye his hair purple and sleep on the roof of the school if the students read 1,000 books. Heintzelman decided 100,000 books was a better challenge.
When the goal was reached this week, Mr. Heintzelman decided red and blue hair would be better and said he will sleep on the roof Thursday until Friday morning. The school will also host a family event Thursday evening at the gazebo behind the school. (Ali Stevens)
