School districts hope to receive state funds next week

midd west THMHARRISBURG – School districts across The Valley are optimistic that they could receive state funding as early as next week, now that the Governor has agreed to let a budget agreement become law.  Victor Abate is president of the Midd West school board and says hopefully the budget becomes law by Sunday evening and they could receive their state funding next week.

The Midd West school board met earlier this week to discuss drastic steps they would have had to take if they didn’t receive about $4.5-million in state funding.  Abate said, “It’s fantastic news.  We are elated that the budget will be passed and we don’t have to pursue other options to find the needed funds.”

Abate also gave an update on the renovations at West Snyder Elementary School in Beaver Springs.  He says they have started drilling well holes at the school and are putting in ceiling tiles.  The work is being done in the evening, so students aren’t impacted while they are at school.  When the school year ends, they will start working on the plumbing and HVAC system, with hopes to have that completed by the time school reopens for the 2016-17 school year.
