SUNBURY – Improving communication with the public is the goal of two candidates for the Lewisburg school board. Incumbent Mary Howe and first-time candidate Erin Jablonski agree the school board should work toward more transparency with the public, “A lot of that information is not confidential, it’s budgetary. So, for example, contracts with potential vendors. Those costs are not immediately obvious or accessible to the public.”

Jablonski, who has attended meetings as a member of the public, says the information is often hard to follow, “I went to the meetings for many, many months, and I’m trying to pay attention, and I have difficulty getting the information.”

Howe says information is put on the district website after the meetings, but that doesn’t help members of the public interested in commenting while a meeting is in session. She is hoping they can move to put details online in advance. There are seven people are vying for five open seats on the school board. (Jennifer Wakeman)
