Schiccatano: Commissioner salary cut was illegal

Sam SchiccatanoSUNBURY – Sam Schiccatano breaks his silence over the lawsuit filed against Northumberland County. On WKOK’s On The Mark, Schiccatano said he and fellow Republican Rick Shoch want a judge to decide if cutting the salaries by 41%, was done legitimately, “All we’re doing is filing papers to find out if what was done by the present commissioners was legal or not.”

He says the Pennsylvania county code states, “changes to county elected offices salaries must be done on an equal, proportionate basis.” Schiccatano says he, Shoch and Kymberley Best all agreed the action was likely illegal since no other row office salaries were reduced.

Schiccatano says he will abide by the judge’s decision and serve as commissioner, regardless of the salary, “If that judge says that what happened is legal and our salary is $36,000, I have no problem going on as a full-time commissioner as I promised, giving 100% to the office. Listen, I’m here to do what I think is right.”

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for January 6.
