LEWISBURG— Judge Michael Hudock approved the petition for the Lewisburg Area School District to privately sell the Lewisburg high school property. The district will sell the property on Market Street to Greenspace Properties LLC for a price of $726,000.
School board president Kathy Swope says the plans for the building will be a perfect fit in the community, “We feel this is a great reuse of the high school for several reasons, the first being that the school will be reused rather than torn down. Secondly, there will be townhouse built on the lot behind the high school, that’s a value to the borough for tax revenue, and it will also benefit all resident of the school district because the school district will have revenue from that as well. “
Greenspace Properties has a proven record of success in refurbishing old school buildings. Swope says the board expects to make settlement on the property by the end of the year, “Our understanding is in January they will start right away. I believe within the first six months you will see many of the uses in play we intended for the community.”
The Lewisburg Children’s Museum plans to open in the building by April 2017 and RiverStage Community Theatre has already scheduled a play for this February. (Sarah Benek)
