BENTON – Two vehicles were damaged by a runaway horse and buggy Monday. State police say the horse and buggy, owned by 25-year-old Levi Stoltzfus of Benton, broke loose from its tether at a store in Benton and ran north on Route 487.
Along the way, the buggy struck a southbound car heavily damaging the front end of the vehicle. The wooden frame of the buggy sustained damage, but the horse continued to pull it along Route 487.
A pick-up truck traveling southbound swerved to miss the oncoming horse and buggy, but was struck on the passenger side, leaving a dent in the panel. The wooden post connecting the buggy to the horse snapped upon impact.
Both drivers were not injured and the horse was also unharmed. Police say there will not be any charges filed for the apparent ‘hit-and-run’ incidents. (Jennifer Wakeman)
