SUNBURY – A Valley legislator says tax credits granted to corporations may not be the best way to attract businesses to Pennsylvania. Rep. Kurt Masser (R-107th, Elysburg) says he doesn’t support corporate tax credits, “I voted against, certainly, most of the tax credits that have been proposed realizing that we’re in the struggles that we are when it comes to a budget.”

Tax credits are often seen as a necessity to compete in the global market, “When it comes down to it, you’re not just looking at Pennsylvania, but you have to bring jobs in. You have to be competitive with other states.”

Masser says the state should not attempt to increase revenue on the backs of the middle class, “There’s a lot of taxes that have been passed and I voted ‘no’ on a number of them. We need to control spending and we need to look at that more.”

Masser is facing a challenge from Democrat Michael Krankowski for his seat in the 107th legislative district. You can hear more from Rep. Masser’s appearance on WKOK’s On The Mark online at wkok.com.
