LEWISBURG – The annual Race for Women’s Health to benefit Family Planning Plus will take place on Saturday in Lewisburg.  Brittney Zechman of Family Planning Plus explains their mission, “We believe everyone deserves quality, confidential care, that’s easily accessible through our healthcare and WIC nutritional programs.”

Zechman says they offer a number of services for women and families so the Race for Women’s Health is an important fundraiser for them, “We actually do mammograms for women above 40 as well as pap smears.  We really want to let people know that service is available for those income eligible.  We actually provide reproductive health services to about 2,000 clients each year.  We have about 5,000 WIC clients each month and we provide educational services to about 1,000 community members each year.”

Shiloh Erdley-Kass is race director and says they will have a 5K and a 10K race option on Saturday, “This is the second year that we will have the 10K.  It’s the 16th year that we have been doing the race.  We’ve always had it downtown, but we’ve moved it over to the Pawling Sports Complex off of Fairground Road.  We’ve got two really great courses.  One is a 5K.  It’s pretty fast and flat.  The 10K is a little bit more rolling and it’s a beautiful area.  Registration starts at 7 a.m. if you haven’t pre-registered already.”

If you want to register online, you can go to www.afitevent.com.  The race begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.  (Ali Stevens)
