Quizzo Tournament to benefit Logan Hile

Logan HileSUNBURY – As Selinsgrove High School student Logan Hile continues to recover from life-threatening complications from the flu, an upcoming Quizzo Tournament will benefit his family.  The 9th Annual Bill Hoover Quizzo Tournament takes place on Monday July 18.

Organizer Angela Brouse explains what Quizzo is, “Quizzo is a pub trivia game, often seen in bars throughout the area.  It’s basically 10 general knowledge Quizzo questions.  Everything from pop culture to history to sports, religion and entertainment.”

Brouse says the tournament is named after her father, who was a teacher in the Shikellamy School District for more than 30 years.  Hoover died from prostate cancer in 2008 and the tournament is held in his honor each year.

This year the silent auction proceeds will benefit the Hile family, “I have a very lofty goal.  I’m hoping $5 or $6,000 on this auction alone, because he’s going to have a lot of expenses ahead.  They are going to have a lot of expenses ahead of them and a lot of trials.  Logan’s mother Jayme hasn’t been able to work since this happened in May.”

Proceeds from the Quizzo tournament will also benefit students in the Shikellamy School District, “This year we gave out four scholarships to Shikellamy High School seniors.  We kind of look for people who maybe faced adversity.  They don’t necessarily have a 4.0 GPA and the best grades, but they work their butt off and they are proud and they faced adversity and succeeded because they are heading off to college.  It keeps his memory alive for us so that’s our goal.”

Other beneficiaries include the Shikellamy Save 5th Grade Camp fund and food donations are collected for the Shikellamy Back Pack program at the event.  There are a few spots still open for six-member Quizzo teams.  You can call the Hotel Edison in Sunbury to make reservations for Monday, July 18.
