SUNBURY – The Northumberland County Prothonotary was arrested today on charges filed by the state Attorney General’s office. 38-year-old Justin Dunkelberger was arraigned on felony theft charges in front of District Judge Ben Apfelbaum in Sunbury.

Court documents indicate that Dunkelberger wrote ten checks to himself from the Phil Lockcuff Memorial Scholarship Fund totaling $10,320. Monies from the fund were to be used for scholarships for student athletes. Dunkelberger also allegedly wrote checks to his campaign fund totaling $1,800.

WKOK has obtained copies of Dunkelberger’s campaign finance reports. No contributions were reported from Dunkelberger himself, but any donation less than $50 does not require the contributor’s name to be reported. $1,644 in contributions were reported by the campaign in amounts less than $50 between April and June 2013. A copy of the campaign finance report is posted below.

The charges include theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and other counts. Dunkelberger was released on $10,000 secured bail.  (Ali Stevens/Jennifer Wakeman)
