Properties to be elevated on the Isle of Que

selinsgrove boro THMSELINSGROVE— The Selinsgrove Borough Council awarded a bid of $174,000 to DB Construction of Selinsgrove for their 2016 elevation project. Properties have been identified to be elevated due to flood damage.  They are located on the Isle of Que.

Councilman Tim Charles announced at their meeting Monday night and notes that this bid comes in well under the estimated cost, saying, “One is at 215 South 2nd Street and the second property is at 108 South 3rd Street.  We received three bids for a combined total bid of $174,800 and that was lower than the estimates, that was a good bid.”

Both houses will be hydraulically raised one and a half feet above the 100-year flood plain.

Councilman Charles also announced Monday night that the Borough has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental protection for their environmental education program. The grant will fund the 2nd annual Susquehanna River Ecology Adventure Day.  Charles said, “They had people from Susquehanna, people from the county, they did macro-invertebrate studies. It was an ecology day.”

The event will be held on August 6th at the Isle of Que boat launch. For more information, contact the Selinsgrove Parks and Recreation Department. ( Sarah Benek)
