SUNBURY – Repair work on the fabridam is planned to begin in late July of next year, and that means the boating season will be shorter next year. Two of dam’s seven inflatable bags will be replaced, along with inspection and possible repairs to other bags.
There will also be construction of a temporary causeway, which will require boating season to end in early August on Lake Augusta at Shikellamy State Park. The dam that forms a 3,000-acre body of water between Northumberland and Snyder Counties normally is lowered in October.
Bureau of State Parks Director John Hallas said, “We want to notify the dedicated Lake Augusta boaters, who often plan their summer boating and mooring schedules, well in advance.”
Spring inflation of the dam will take place as usual, with Lake Augusta expected to be ready for boaters for the Memorial Day weekend. Then, the dam will be deflated in late July to be ready for repairs in early August. (Ali Stevens)
