‘Person of interest’ found unresponsive

MOUNT CARMEL – Robert Thurner, the man identified by police as the ‘person of interest’ in a death in Mount Carmel on Friday was found unresponsive Saturday. Media reports say the 34-year old is in the intensive care unit at Geisinger Medical Center after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Columbia County Prison Saturday morning. A nursing supervisor said there was no update on his condition this morning.

Thurner was the live-in boyfriend of 28-year old Penny Lee Mansfield who was found dead outside of her Mount Carmel home on Friday. That’s when police identified Thurner as their ‘person of interest’ and took him to the Columbia County Prison on a probation detainer.

Neighbors told police yelling and screaming could be heard from the home about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and through the night.

A three-year-old child was inside the home at the time and was placed in the custody of Northumberland County Children and Youth Services.

An autopsy will be performed Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. Charges are pending further investigation. (The Daily Item/WKOK)
